The Loyola Society of Debaters is one of the oldest societies of the college started in 1925. The society has been an integral part of the vibrant student debating circuit in India. The achievements and accolades of the society and its members stretched across seven decades are too many for one to do any justice to on paper. However at short perusal of the list of former presidents’ of the society throws up such names as R. Venkatraman, P. Chidambaram, N. Ram, P. Sainath and Sanjay Pinto. This alone is testament to the society’s history and producing future leaders.

Keeping with its spirit of being a pioneer, the LSD hosted Chennai's first ever National Parliamentary Debate: the Jerome D'Souza Memorial National Parliamentary Debate in 2009. With over 30 participating teams from top colleges throughout the country including IIM-B, IIT-B, NLS-B, the event was a resounding success.

The Loyola Society of Debaters is a 'meeting group' for like minded individuals who share a mix of passion for making a difference, a keen interest in the happenings of the world around them and yet are able to analyse and put forth their views in an (almost disturbingly) objective manner.

LSD Members regularly appear on debates on several news channels, radio shows. Articles of members are published in several publications both within and outside of the college. With the Loyola Quiz Club also run by the society, the Loyola Society of Debaters is the destination for those with strong opinions, those who are bursting with ideas and (off late as a reality check) for those who  believe that they are the miracle that this world needs.
